Israel to send 'rescue planes' to Amsterdam after violent football disorder

On Thursday (7 November), following a Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv at Amsterdam's Johan Cruyff Arena, Israeli soccer fans were subjected to violent attacks. Assailants ambushed the fans as they departed the stadium, resulting in multiple injuries and hospitalizations. In response, the Israeli government is to dispatch rescue planes to the Netherlands to evacuate its citizens.

Footage from the incident shows individuals being chased and assaulted, with some passers-by struck by a car at high speed. Reports indicate that some attackers shouted "Free Palestine" during the assaults, and there were instances of stolen passports. Ten people were hospitalised due to injuries sustained in the attacks.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof expressed horror at the events, labeling the attacks as "completely unacceptable antisemitic attacks on Israelis." He assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that those responsible would be "tracked down and prosecuted."

The Israeli Foreign Ministry condemned the violence, stating that the fans were "ambushed" and "brutally attacked" by violent "mobs." In response, Israel is deploying two rescue planes to Amsterdam to evacuate its citizens.

This incident highlights the escalating tensions and the necessity for international cooperation to ensure the safety of individuals abroad.
