Naif Al Bidh is a Dubai-based lecturer and writer, he has previously lectured history and politics at
the American University in the Emirates, and worked with the IFP program at Middlesex University
(Dubai). Naif is a PhD student at Keele University, and holds an MA in intellectual history from the University of Sussex, and an MSc in international relations from the University of Aberdeen.
Naif served as a political officer for the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen, representing
the case of South Yemen in political missions abroad, and as a liaison between the STC and think-
tanks, NGOs, and foreign embassies. His early research interests range from secessionism, territorial integrity and self-determination in international law, to regionalism in Yemen.
Naif is also interested in Oswald Spengler’s philosophy of history, and has recently written about Spengler’s concept of Caesarism and how it is relevant to current political developments in the West in Brave Pessimism: The Clash of Caesarism and Democracy in Oswald Spengler’s Philosophy of History (2023).
His latest research attempts to redefine the field of speculative philosophy of history, and explores
the continued relevance of the field during times of crises, on that front his forthcoming piece with
Bloomsbury compares the newly emerging field of Big History with speculative philosophy of
history.
